Welcome to The Art of Copyediting Community!

We're so happy to have you as our new member!

Let's begin

The Art of Copyediting membership subscription gives you access to the following:

  • The AOC community
  • The AOC membership library
  • An AOC course of your choice (you have to make a request)
  • A dedicated mobile app from where you can access these when you're on the go

We'd like to know more about you

Thank you for joining our community!

We'd like to get to get to know all of our members so that we can serve you better.

Phone number: This is for any quick WhatsApp messages, often useful for unexpected instant communication. Please use your country prefix (e.g., +1, +44, +91, etc.) before you mobile number.

City, State, and Country will help us to know your location.

Please take a moment to fill this out

The AOC library

Your login details have been sent to your email ID. As a first step, login to the AOC site, and this will give you access to your resources within the AOC library. When you login, you will see two items:

  • The AOC Community: This will be the community feature of the membership subscription.
  • The AOC membership library: This will be the special membership library, accessible only by members of the AOC community.
  • Right now, both these will be empty. But as founding members, we will all build this together and make it the most wonderful community we want it to be.

Membership settings

  • Click on your avatar on the top right corner and click on Settings.
  • Under Profile, select your time zone. Then ensure all the 3 checkboxes below it are ticked. Upload a nice photo of yourself.
  • Under Social Profile, tell us something about yourself: your education, summary of work experience, current employment status (employed in a company or freelance), aspirations, and whatever else you'd like to tell us about yourself! This is what the other community members will see when they click on your profile
  • Also please specify your location by typing in your place/city, state, and country in that order (all spelled out). This again is an important part of your profile.

The global AOC community

  • The main page of the Community will have just two items on the top left: Feed and Topics.
  • Feed is simply the conversations that all of us will have over time.
  • Some topics have already been added. Most of these relate to the courses you may begin with. You simply have to tag each post of yours with an appropriate topic.
  • Right now, do not add topics. The admin will add more topics as appropriate after the initial discussions.
  • Remember that we are the founders of this community. It is said that people join a group for the content (and mentoring), but stay there for the community. So, let's build this to make it the place we'd happy to belong to!

The global AOC membership library

  • As mentioned earlier, this is the special membership library, accessible only by members of the AOC community.
  • This will be the place where we'll have the recordings of our fortnightly meetings.
  • Anything that is shared among members will also be placed here for orderly information retrieval, which will help all of us in the long run.
  • The categories and subcategories will be developed as we evolve the content within the members' library.

The AOC course of your choice

  • In the navigation bar of the Community, there will be a link to request access to the course you want (from the courses available in the AOC (main) library).
  • You can start with
    • The List of References—if you want to learn copyediting the traditional way
    • Essentials of Written English—if you want to learn language first (say for fiction, nonacademic nonfiction
    • Sentence Patterns 1: The Restrictive–Nonrestrictive Conundrum—if you feel you are pretty strong with the concepts covered under the Essentials course
  • At present, please request access to only one of the above three.
    • If you already have access to an AOC course, you need not fill this form now.
  • Other than this, there will be a fairly well-thought sequence that will be indicated to you when we move forward with the sessions.
  • When you learn together and practice together, it will be easier to grow together.
